Flatland riders of Yamaha SR Viper snowmobiles will be able to enjoy the extra power and exhilaration of turbo, thanks to a new kit that will be available this fall.
Earlier this year, Yamaha announced the introduction of the Mountain Performance Inc. (MPI) accessory turbo kit for the all-new SR Viper M-TX mountain machines. During Yamaha’s Spring Power Surge, customers could purchase the MPI kit in conjunction with a new M-TX. With the success of the accessory kits exceeding expectations in mountain trim, the new MPI turbo kit was developed specifically for applications below 6,000-feet. The dealer-installed kit delivers an additional 45 hp on pump gas, Yamaha claims.
The new MPI Trail Turbo accessory kit for 2014 and 2015 SR Viper R-TX, L-TX, X-TX and S-TX models has most of the same features of the kit for M-TX models, including the same horsepower boost, but unique to the Trail Kit is an electronically controlled waste gate that will limit boost to 5 psi. Both the Trail and Mountain kits feature a solid mount system and a new muffler that is quieter than previous designs – both systems meet Environmental Protection Agency standards.
Yamaha and MPI worked on the new kit through this summer with the goal to provide a reliable boost in power for the SR Viper models. The new MPI Trail Turbo Kit will be available at Yamaha dealerships in November, but look for it on display next weekend at the Yamaha booth at Haydays. Retail price is $3,299.
