Weather has again foiled plans for the USXC I-500 cross-country snowmobile race, but the 2016 event will go on with an altered route and three days of racing, instead of four as was originally planned.
The 2016 USXC I-500 was slated to run February 10-13 from Winnipeg, Manitoba, to Willmar, Minnesota, but with poor snow conditions near Willmar, racers will finish in Bemidji, a city in north-central Minnesota.
Here is the new schedule for the 2016 USXC I-500:
Day 1 Feb. 10 – Winnipeg to Seven Clans Casino in Thief River Falls, Minnesota (200 miles)
Day 2 Feb. 11 – Racers start and end at Seven Clans Casino (180-mile loop)
Day 3 Feb. 12 – Seven Clans Casino to Bemidji (125 miles)
Last year the USXC attempted to restore the point-to-point format of the legendary I-500, but the event was cancelled due to lack of snow. With more snow this winter, USXC officials say the race is “100 percent a go.”
