An interesting and folksy news story about the joys of vintage snowmobile restoration and collecting has gotten a fresh breath of air recently when the Journal.ClassicCars.com website posted it as its video of the day. That put the video on the news wires, and that in turn has many people returning to the interesting portrayal of the passion of sled collecting.
The video is from a show called “At Your Leisure,” and features the down-home tones of Bob Welti describing how Gordon Kimble of Idaho Falls, Idaho, transitioned from restoring and collecting cars to doing a similar thing with classic snowmobiles. Kimble passed away in 2016, but this story brings him and his collection back to the forefront.
Look closely at the video and you’ll see a big pile of truly classic Arctic Cat and Polaris snowmobiles — dating back to the rear-engine sleighs that started the sport — as well as models from Ski-Doo, Evinrude, Harley-Davidson, Bolens Diablo Rouge, Raider, Manta, Chrysler, Fox Trac and more.
Kimble’s collection included than 80 snowmobiles at the time the story was created, and it reflects the vintage affliction that has struck many in the sledding world! Enjoy the video.
