A friend of snowmobiling, Bill Townsend from Jackson, Wyoming, was killed in a car accident earlier this week.
Townsend spent a good part of his life guiding snowmobilers and non-snowmobilers in the Wyoming, Montana and Idaho area. He served as President of the Wyoming State Snowmobile Association and Chairman of the Western Chapter of the American Council of Snowmobile Associations.
He was instrumental in the Jackson Hill Climb, where he was crowned “King of the Hill.” Townsend was also very involved in the Clean Snowmobile Challenge.
He was awarded the Wyoming Governor’s Award for Snowmobiler of the Year and he was also honored as the Snowmobiler of Year for the American Council of Snowmobile Associations.
The American Council of Snowmobile Associations has been working with Townsend’s family and has created a Bill Townsend Memorial Scholarship Fund because of his constant promotion of snowmobiling, his interest in fighting to maintain access to public lands, and his involvement with safe snowmobiling.
Contributions can be made to the Bill Townsend Memorial Scholarship Fund, and mailed to Teri Manning, P.O. Box 4339, Jackson, WY 83001.
Funeral arrangements are scheduled for Saturday, December 31st in Jackson.
