Snocross Shakeup: Season To Wrap At ERX, Eagle River And Sioux Falls

The final three weekends – and six racing rounds – of this winter’s snocross season on the Amsoil Championship Snocross series will all have new sites, as the host ISOC circuit charges forward and adapts to the challenges of COVID-19-related restrictions.

With the moves, the circuit also opens the doors to two high-profile sites and returns to a site that was new for 2021 while also turning away – at least for this year – from three historic sites of snocross shootouts.

It’ll start March 4-5, when the ERX Motor Park in Elk River, Minnesota, will replace the Canterbury Park horse racing track in nearby Shakopee, Minnesota, as the host of the Pirtek National and rounds 11 and 12 of the race season. Earlier this year, ERX hosted the first two rounds of the snocross series. Canterbury has been the site of arguably the best-attended snocross race of the season for most of the last 25 years.

Next, the World Championship Derby Complex in Eagle River, Wisconsin, will host rounds 12 and 13 – the Ram Trucks National – in place of an event planned for Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. The Eagle River track, of course, has been the site of the prestigious Eagle River World Championship Snowmobile Derby for decades. It has danced with snocross over the years but has only hosted one “national” over the years. Lake Geneva, meanwhile, has traditionally been the site of the three-round season finale but this year was schedule to host two two-round penultimate weekend.

The season will then wrap up March 26-28 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, at the W.H. Lyons Fairgrounds that hosted the circuit on short-notice on February 19-20. Originally, that weekend of racing was supposed to in Salamanca, New York, but Sioux Falls was selected as a replacement site. Now, Sioux Falls will return, this time in replacement of the Amsoil Championship that was originally scheduled to be held in Grand Rapids, Michigan. It will include two “regular” rounds of racing on Friday and Saturday, followed by specialty racing including everything from the Amsoil Dominator shootout to amateur events on Sunday.
