Officials with Otter Tail Power Co. in Western Minnesota are urging snowmobilers to use caution when riding in areas of North Dakota, South Dakota and Minnesota that were hard-hit by a late-November snowstorm.
Snowmobile and ATV riders should be aware of possible debris from downed power lines in public rights-of-way. In some places, snow has covered debris, creating unseen hazards.
Broken cross-arms, the remaining stumps of power poles, and downed power lines, which could entangle a snowmobile or rider, may be covered by snow.
This debris is frozen into the ground. The potential for damage or injury can’t be overemphasized.
