The two remaining large-scale snowmobile shows in the U.S. have officially been cancelled, leaving two pending shows in the mountain states as the only consumer events still on the calendar in the country.
The Anderson family that owns and operates the Snowmobile USA Show & Sale events in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Novi, Michigan, sent out notices to exhibitors at about 4 p.m. central time on August 11, announcing that their events were being cancelled for 2020 due to COVID-19 related situations.
“It is with a heavy heart that we announce the postponement of our Snowmobile USA Show & Sale Series,” the announcement said. “‘The show must go on’ is in our DNA, and this is the first time in 36 years that the shows will not take place.”
The move follows earlier cancellations of the Hay Days Grass Drags and Swap Meet and the New Hampshire Race Into Winter outdoor events, plus most of the major indoor fall snowmobile events, including but not limited to the New York-based Big East Powersports Show and Colorado’s Rocky Mountain Snowmobile Expo, plus notable shows in Washington, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and even Alberta. The only notable snowmobile shows remaining on the schedule in the U.S. are the Harris Publishing/Snowest-operated shows in Idaho and Utah, while the big shows in Toronto and Saskatoon remain in Canada. See the schedule below.
In the Snowmobile USA announcement, they noted that the Wisconsin Exposition Center in West Allis, Wisconsin, that was supposed to host their mid-October Milwauee show and the Suburban Collection Showplace that is used for the Novi, Michigan, show each November are both being utilized as field hospitals for COVID-19, and aren’t expected to be decommissioned as field hospitals in time for this year’s shows.
“Due to the large size of our shows, we were unable to locate another facility to meet our needs and to produce the quality shows we strive to deliver, while still complying with health and safety regulations,” the announcement said. “Please know that we did everything we could to prevent this outcome.”
