If you want to experience a wild ride of a different kind, here’s a five day snowmobiling festival that you’ll remember for a long, long time.
What was that old movie from the sixties? The Russians are coming! It’s not the Russians, but this celebration will highlight the snowmobiling countries of Canada, USA, Finland, Sweden, Japan and Norway. The Whitecourt Trailblazers will be presenting what promises to be one of the most exciting snowmobile events of the year. The 2015 World Snowmobile Invasion will bring the national snowmobile event to Whitecourt, Alberta, February 11th to 15th.
Wednesday, February 11th and Thursday February 12th
Ride the Golden Triangle Trail System. 339 km over two days. Riders are expected to ride both days.
Members of the Whitecourt Trailblazers Snowmobile Club will guide riders along the 339 km Golden Triangle Trail System. Day 1 will be from Whitecourt to Swan Hills and Swan Hills to Fox Creek. Day 2 will be from Fox Creek back to Whitecourt. You will ride on groomed trails through the boreal forest of West Central Alberta.
Event organizers advise that this is an intermediate to advanced ride. Please ensure your snowmobile is in good running order. You will be riding through isolated areas.
Thursday, February 12th
The Alberta Snowmobile Association (A.S.A.) is hosting the World Snowmobile Parade where organizers plan to set a new WORLD RECORD for the largest number of snowmobiles riding in a parade. The current World Record, as recorded by Guiness Book of World Records is 820 snowmobiles.
Don’t miss the opportunity to participate in this one of a kind event. Antique sleds (that run) are welcome and encouraged.
The parade route is expected to start at the WELCOME CENTRE for a 5 km route through the Town of Whitecourt. The ride is expected to last approximately 1 hour. Check the WSI website for the route map.
Friday, February 13th
Ride to the Silver Summit Ski Hill and back to Whitecourt.
Members of the Whitecourt Trailblazers Snowmobile Club will guide riders along the 178 km round trip trail ride to the Silver Summit Ski Hill for lunch at the Ski Chalet and back to Whitecourt. You will ride on groomed trails through the large foothill valleys. The Silver Summit Trail System links the communities of Whitecourt and Edson.
Freestyle Show featuring Levi Lavallee
On Friday and Saturday, Octane Addictions is bringing one of the biggest and sickest freestyle aerial stunt shows to Whitecourt. Extreme riders will entertain with a spectacular series of tricks, kicks, backflips and more on snowmobiles. The featured rider will be seven-time Winter X Games Gold Medal freestyler Levi Lavallee. `
Beer Fest
After Friday’s Freestyle Event, Beer Fest ticket holders will experience a Canadian country bar atmosphere. There will be a live country band, dance floor and beer (plus wine and spirits). This is a ticketed event so please have your Beer Fest ticket with you for admission. Must be 18 years or older (ID required).
Saturday, February 14th and Sunday, February 15th
Ride the 2015 World Snowmobile Rally / ASA Jamboree and see the world! Riders can participate one or both days.
Themed checkpoints will be setup on two different rally routes. Get your World Snowmobile Invasion Passport stamped as you ride the groomed trails between each ‘country’. Experience Canada, USA, Finland, Sweden, Japan & Norway along the way.
