Polaris Announces 2013 800 Pro-RMK 155

Polaris announced today changes to its flagship mountain snowmobile for 2013, the 800 Pro-RMK 155. The deep-snow machine features a new drivetrain, revised ergonomics and a claimed dry weight of 417 pounds. Polaris has been teasing its Facebook followers for the past week, offering hints and glimpses of the new features. Here’s the full scoop:

The 2013 800 Pro RMK 155 has the new Quick Drive drivetrain.
The 2013 800 Pro-RMK 155 has the new Quick Drive drivetrain.

The QuickDrive Low Inertia Drive System uses a maintenance-free belt and nickel-plated pulleys that take the place of two sprockets and a chain inside a chaincase. Polaris engineers say the belt, which is similar to the one used on the company’s Victory motorcycles, is virtually indestructible. The system also includes an extruded aluminum driveshaft and lightweight brake. Polaris says QuickDrive weighs 6.5 pounds less than the chaincase system it replaces and results in a 20-percent reduction in inertia, so it requires less rider input to maneuver the sled.

Other new parts for the 2013 Polaris 800 Pro-RMK 155 include bonded lower A arms and expanded use of carbon fiber. Instead of welding the lower A-arm tubes together where they meet at the spindle, the two steel tubes are bonded inside a forged aluminum cap. Polaris claims this design cuts 2 pounds from the front suspension. The bonding agent is the same high-tech material that Polaris has used to join components on the Pro Ride chassis since it debuted for 2010. The 800 Pro-RMK 155 also gets a new carbon fiber steering structure under the hood.

Powder Trac is a new running board that has more open space for snow evacuation and a high-traction finish for more grip. Each running board can be removed and replaced in case of damage. The seat has been shortened more than 5 inches to save weight and reduce interference when the rider swings a leg over it during side-to-side transitions.

Power comes from the 800 Liberty, a twin-cylinder engine with Cleanfire semi-direct fuel injection. The rest of the 2013 Polaris lineup will be unveiled on March 6.
