WEST GLOVER, Vermont (Feb. 15, 2021) — Wisconsin native and national cross country star Zach Herfindahl made the long haul from the Dairy State pay off, sweeping the Pro finals on Saturday as Rock Maple Racing (RMR) completed Round 2 on their 2021 schedule at Young View Farms.

Herfindahl, of Eagle River, Wisconsin, powered his Arctic Cat to victory in Pro Open by a whopping 55 second margin over runner-up Matt Cameron. Maine’s Heath Bell filled out the podium in third, crossing the stripe 19 seconds behind Cameron. Herfindahl was truly in a class of his own in Vermont.

In Pro Factory Stock, Herfindahl outgunned New York veteran Kenny Murphy for top honors in a grueling, 20-lap contest. Dylan Thompson crossed the stripe in third with a solid performance. With a well-prepared five-mile course, the Pro riders had plenty of room to squeeze the throttle on Saturday.

In Semi-Pro action, local favorite Brock Young made it a clean sweep on his Gray’s Paving-Precision Marine Arctic Cat. Young held off opening round winner Aaron Shelton and Austin Kodey to claim the Improved final, while Shelton and Pownal, Maine’s Bailey Slocum finished second and third in the Stock class. Slocum, like Bell, of New Gloucester, is a devoted member of the Maine contingent.

Other Winners

Krysti Leach rode to victory in the Women’s class on Saturday. The resident of Beverly, Mass., held off Karley Nichols and Vermont’s Mandy Preston for top honors. Former regional snocross champion Nykea Williams returned to racing on Saturday, finishing fourth with a respectable effort.

The ever-popular Trail classes were hotly contested in Vermont, as well. Erick Bourdeau, of Hooksett, NH, powered to victory in Trail 600 over Zach Prive and Harrison Shover. In Trail 800, Barker Willard came up from Wilmington, VT, to win over St. Johnsbury’s Colton Hudson and Glover’s Emmitt Simpson. Nine sleds took the green in Trail 600, a good sign for this entry-level division.

Riders from throughout Vermont’s famed Northeast Kingdom did well in Glover, including Newport-based Rene Desrochers, who won the Masters and Plus 40 classes. Desrochers outgunned Coventry’s Bruce Daigle for the victory in Masters and Brian Caron in the Plus 40 class.
