Good Grooming: Oregon Trail Worker Is Recognized

It’s not very often that the mainstream media spends much time saying positive things about our little sport, and even less attention is given to the volunteers that make snowmobiling work. So, when the media does shine that light, it is much appreciated.

KTVZ NewsChannel 21 out of Bend, Oregon, produced a very positive story this week on La Pine, Oregon, groomer operator Bob Keller, who recently found our he’s going to be recognized by the International Snowmobile Hall of Fame this coming fall as the Groomer Of The Year.

According to the story, Keller started grooming for the local La Pine Lodge Pole Dodgers 18 years ago, after retiring at age 66. Now 84, he’s not slowing down.

For a story that appeared in Snow Goer two years ago, regular contributor Mike Carr actually met Keller and many others from that club, so the story really rang a bell with us. Below is a copy of the piece done for the TV news, and here’s a link to the story on their website. And, as you’ll see, a trailside “THANKS!” to a groomer operator goes a long ways!
