Arctic Cat Expands Electronic Power Steering for 2027
For 2027, Arctic Cat is taking rider comfort and control to the next level by greatly expanding the availability of electronic power steering (EPS) across its snowmobile lineup.
Electronic power steering is a little used technology in snowmobiles, softening trail feedback and lightening steering effort, especially over long days in the rough stuff. For 2027, Arctic Cat’s implementation builds on that foundation with a system designed to dampen bump steer, reduce bar movement by up to 40%, and significantly cut rider fatigue so you can spend more time on the trail and less time resting afterwards.

What Makes The Arctic Cat Electric Power Steering Special
At its core, EPS uses an electric assist motor that works with the sled’s steering system to buffer unwanted feedback from the trail and tailor the level of assist based on speed and steering input. That means light and predictable steering at low speeds, more confidence through faster corners, and a smoother, more controlled feel overall. Arctic Cat’s patented approach integrates the power‑assist unit into the lightweight Catalyst chassis, keeping added weight centered and virtually unnoticeable so the sled still feels nimble and responsive.
According to Arctic Cat, weight added by the EPS system stays low and central thanks to their unique lay‑down engine platform and chassis layout. That helps preserve the sled’s balance and handling characteristics, even at aggressive speeds, while still giving riders the benefit of easier steering with less effort on the bars.
Arctic Cat has long been recognized for its lighter-than-average steering. This was accomplished with a wider handlebar arc, which let the bars move much more than those on other manufacturers’ sleds. Put simply: A longer lever makes turning easier. The downside, however, was that steering often required moving the handlebars all the way toward your body.
With EPS now on board, the sleds feature a reduced handlebar throw, which is a game-changer. The result is steering that feels light and responsive, without requiring the wide, exaggerated handle movements that older designs demanded.
2027 Arctic Cat EPS Lineup
What’s most exciting for riders is how Arctic Cat is working to expand EPS functionality across their lineup. Until last year, EPS was only available on the ZR 9000 Thundercat. In 2026, EPS appeared on the ZR 600 EPS, Pantera 9000, and the retro‑styled EXT Special. For 2027, Arctic Cat has expanded the technology into more Catalyst chassis models, including the Bearcat, additional ZR models, and the El Tigré 600/858.
Arctic Cat is taking a major step forward in making premium steering technology accessible to more riders across skill levels and machine styles.

Yamaha had EPS on their sleds for over 10 years. so did Cat get it from them?
