Thanks, John — make sure to smile for the pictures when zooming past me in turn 1 (Fri and Sat night) or turn 4 (Sunday) at E.R…. and down run me over down there! Good luck this season.

    Good afternoon, Russ:

I can confirm that your picks are officially in for the 2020 Snowmobile Racing Challenge…. they were actually for 1997-98, though, so you picks converted over the (1) Terry Wahl (2) Dale Loritz (3) Jeff Ludwig (4) Jacques Villeneuve and (5) Jim Schmidt. Hope that’s not a problem!

But seriously, I think I’ve got the reply message gig fixed, but we “borrow” the plug-in that runs the fantasy game from a third-party source, and I think the company that built it isn’t even around anymore so it’s rather wonky (as you’ve undoubtedly seen over the years!!).

RE: the webcast of this weekend, you can subscribe to speedshiftTV for $40 for a month and get the live webcast… seems like a lot in one sense, but considering Eagle River is in the same month, it would be worth it to me — if I wasn’t going to Eagle River, but I am, so…

Did you guys have trouble coming up with Cat sleds to run for this year?

Probably not… that time of year we’re always trying to get more miles on our demo fleet or some pre-production units for the following year, so if I don’t have any other commitments you can usually find me in the U.P. or far northern Wisconsin or Minnesota that time of year, running over snowflakes. I love racing, but if the choice is watching somebody else ride or holding the handlebar myself… well… duty calls!

Keep track of any lap times for me? I need insight, man, not just name-dropping!!!

In all seriousness, I think Benham could be a man to beat this year — time will tell. I’ll be watching the online stuff on-and-off on Friday and Saturday of Duluth weekend, so maybe I’ll see the kids on there, but I can’t shake loose of other commitments until Sunday morning. Good luck.

I plan to be at the Duluth opener on Sunday — what classes are you folks running? Will Team Svenny be all wrapped up by then, or should me and my camera be ready to run for our lives (and lens) when one of the kids takes a short cut through the infield?!!

That’s a horrible sled. You made a monstrous error in putting your money behind it, you’re going to hate it, and your neighbors will hate you for owning it. And, had you bought any other sled (or truck, or car, or TV, or toaster) that would have been a horrible mistake as well.

(trying to get into this trashing thing… for the record, that’s a version of the Cat I could have bought this year — there was so much still unknown and unfinished with the “new” 800 last spring that that would have spooked me, had I been spending my own money. But the 600, with the new front end? Seems like a fine choice. Hopefully I’ll see you and your group in another ditch near Brainerd this winter!)

Thanks for stumbling across our renewed message boards, Russ, and frankly for testing them for us! We’re excited about the new website as a whole, and are hopeful that the message boards will return to life, but in the social media era that’s not guaranteed. Now, I’ve got to get back to writing on our season-premiere issue — yep, we’re on deadline for the fall’s first issue; thinking, talking and writing about snowmobiles never stops here, despite the heat outside!
