Vintage Snowmobile Magazine Changes Hands

We’re normally not in the business of plugging other folks’ publications, but we’re going to make an exception here. We very truly look forward to each issue of Vintage Snowmobile Magazine when it shows up in our mailbox. Between the well-written content, the brilliant photography of old sleds, the event calendar and more, we devour every page of the publication the day it arrives.

Well, Vintage Snowmobile Magazine has a new owner, but it’s a very familiar face to folks who have an appreciation for the history of the publication. It’s Mike Kohn – a former editor of the publication who returned to the position of editor just over two years ago.

Vintage Snowmobile Magazine will continue under the leadership of Mike Kohn.

Kohn is buying the publication and related Vintage Snowmobile Club of America from Mike Meagher. The deal was announced on September 18. The full press release is pasted below.

On the VSCA website Kohn said he “wants to return to more of a club atmosphere that made the VSCA and Vintage Snowmobiling what it was then and still is today, one of the best groups of people in the snowmobile community.”

Here’s that VSCA press release (below):

VSCA / VINTAGE SNOWMOBILE MAGAZINE UNDER NEW OWNERSHIP

The Vintage Snowmobile Club of America/Vintage Snowmobile Magazine is under new ownership. Former and current Editor Mike Kohn of Kohn & Kohn, LLC will now be publishing the magazine after a deal was worked out with former publisher Mike Meagher, effective immediately.

A huge thank you to Mike Meagher for his great contributions to the VSCA and the magazine over the past decades. He will continue to be very active in snowmobile racing and the hobby in general.

Mr. Kohn and Mr. Meagher will be working very hard to make sure that the transition is seamless and smooth for subscribers. Mr. Kohn has many exciting plans for the organization going forward and hopes to bring subscribers the best possible experience for fans of old snowmobiles from any decade or era, whether they be family trail machines, race machines or any other variant.

“Some folks tend to categorize machines into ‘Antique’, ‘Classic’ and ‘Vintage’. ‘Vintage’ may be in our name but to me, they’re all just old snowmobiles and I love every one of them,” said Kohn.

The Vintage Snowmobile Club of America was founded in 1987 by former Mercury racer Gary Webster. Mr. Kohn was Editor of what was then the club’s newsletter from 1994-1999 and President of the club from 1997-99. The newsletter morphed into a magazine in the early 2000’s. Mr. Meagher has published it since 2004. Mr. Kohn returned as Editor in 2023 after a long absence from the hobby.

Vintage Snowmobile Magazine is published quarterly, with issues in March, June, September and December. You can find the VSCA on Facebook or at www.vsca.com.

A huge thank you to Mike and Judy Meagher who did an outstanding job for the vintage hobby by bringing the magazine to whole new level about 20 years ago. Great job!! Such a quality publication beautifully assembled in full color with great content from our vintage hobby on a National level.. It is great to see Mike Kohn coming full circle to take it over again several decades later. Mike Kohn is a real true vintage guy so the new task should come easy again.
