What’s it like to tackle the ultra-challenging Exhibition Run at the Jackson Hole World Championship Snowmobile Hill Climb? Or, what are the most interesting memories of racing all four brands in snocross against Hibbert, Morgan, Vincent and more during the ultra-competitive late 1990s and early 2000s?
Switching gears, which 2026 pre-production snowmobiles stood out at the recently completed Rode Reports event? And what expert advice would a master shock tuner share with folks trying to get the best ride out of their snowmobiles?

Those questions and more were addressed by our guests and friends Tim Maki and Jeff Oberg in the winter season finale episode of Snow Goer Live on Thursday, March 27, at 7:30 p.m. central time. It was truly live on the Snow Goer YouTube and Facebook channels. It can also be viewed live within this story in the video player below, or watched now on YouTube. And, because it’s recorded live, viewers could pose questions to our guests in the live chat.
Snow Goer Live is sponsored by Arctiva outerwear, Z1R helmets and Gates G-Force belts.
Host John Prusak was joined first by Tim Maki, driver of the No. 32 Polaris…. and No. 32 Ski-Doo., Yamaha and Arctic Cat, for that matter, during a glorious time of snocross racing. Maki went toe-to-toe with some of the legends of snocross racing. He retired from bumps racing many years ago, but the competitive bug bit him again in recent times. He now competes in top-level professional hillclimb racing — including at the Jackson Hole Hillclimb last weekend. We heard stories from his interesting racing history and brought it all the way up to the current season of hillclimbing.
Next, we were joined by Jeff Oberg. He’s a lifelong snowmobiler who dabbled in racing himself, first as a racer and then more extensively as a wrench behind some top racers. He’s also a longtime contributor to Snow Goer who has tested sleds with us for the past 18 years at Rode Reports and has provided a ton of technical expertise behind our Service & Repair stories in the magazine.
Oberg shared some of his thoughts on the 2026 snowmobiles he recently tested. Then, we transitioned to some tuning tips, most specifically related to shock absorbers, one of his areas of expertise. We discussed the why, when and how of shock rebuilding, including how to help whoever rebuilds your shocks to custom-tune them for your exact usage.
As usual, the show also included banter on a variety of other subjects related to snowmobiling, including details on our ride last weekend in Michigan’s U.P.
