Two-time defending Eagle River World Champion and five-time Vintage World Champ Matt Goede is adding another trophy to his impressive case. He has been named the 2024 International Snowmobile Racing Driver of the Year.

The award is now in its second year out of hibernation from the International Snowmobile Racing (ISR) sanctioning and rules-making organization. In the 1990s, it was a big award announced annually in October at the old ISR Press Conference in Milwaukee. But it had been parked for more than a dozen years before reappearing in 2023.
When announcing the award on October 23, ISR cited Goede’s “exceptional skill, unmatched determination and continued success across some of the sport’s most challenging events.” The oval racing star from New Germany, Minnesota, has become a dominating force in Formula III and Pro Champ 440 modern racing aboard his No. 28 Ski-Doos in recent years.
ISR Award Background
ISR brought back its racer/driver of the year last year as a part of its partnership with the United States Auto Club (USAC) Racing organization. In 2023, the award’s first year in the current era, drag racer Mike Rempel earned the award and was honored at the USAC sponsored awards banquet in December of 2023.
ISR President Todd Achterberg announced in January of 2024 that the ISR Driver of the Year award would be focused on oval, enduro and watercross competition for 2024. For 2025, the award will go to somebody from snocross or cross-country racing, he said.

This recognition reflects his exceptional skill, unmatched determination, and continued success across some of the sport’s most challenging events.
The 2024 season has been nothing short of remarkable for Goede. He secured his second consecutive World Championship at Eagle River, setting a new track record with his dominant performance.
In addition, Goede claimed victories at prestigious events, including the Wausau 525 Sprint World Cup and the Grand Prix Ski-Doo de Valcourt, solidifying his place among the sport’s elite. His consistency across multiple championships, with podium finishes in Beausejour, Eganville and other key venues, demonstrates his expertise and unwavering focus.

“I am honored to even be considered for this award, let alone be chosen,” Matt Goede said. “We had an incredible 2023/2024 season. While it wasn’t a perfect season, we added quite a few accomplishments to the list. This would not have been possible without Dale & Debbie Loritz and my family supporting me. I am incredibly thankful for the opportunities Dale has given me, allowing me to race his snowmobiles, and for the endless support from my wife, my kids, and my crew. Thank you, ISR, for this award and all you do for snowmobile racing.”
Todd Achterberg, President of the International Snowmobile Racing, congratulated Goede, saying, “Matt exemplifies the spirit of snowmobile racing. His talent, dedication, and perseverance through challenges are exactly what this sport celebrates. This award is a well-deserved recognition of his contributions and incredible performance in 2024.”
Goede’s journey has been defined by resilience, overcoming severe injuries early in his career to become one of the sport’s most decorated athletes. With five Vintage World Championships and back-to-back modern World Championship titles in 2023 and 2024, Goede’s legacy is both inspiring and enduring.
