IAfter a two-year stint hosting an ISOC Championship Series Snocross race date, fans will not be returning to the Snow King Mountain Resort in Jackson, Wyoming, next season.
Jackson Hole News & Guide is reporting that ISOC owner John Daniels has said the decision to relocate was based on the event’s low participation caused by the high cost of travel to Teton County for racers.
Snow King General Manager Ryan Stanley said the race averaged 2,500 spectators each year, compared to more than 20,000 in other regions.
ISOC received $80,000 in taxpayer money from the Jackson Hole Travel and Tourism Board in 2017, and $60,000 in 2018 for marketing purposes. During both years, its estimated that attendees filled 700 hotel rooms and spent $400,000 – roughly $24,000 in sales tax.
With the decades-old tradition of the Hill Climb event being held in Jackson, Daniels said he expected more enthusiasm.
Snocross races remain popular in the Midwest and East Coast regions, and the invite to return to Jackson Hole remains open.
“We would love for them to come back,” Stanley said. “If someday we can figure out how to bring them back, then we would… I think it was a great experience bringing it to Jackson, and it’s too bad we couldn’t continue it and see where it went to.”
