Continued Clutch Issues Causes Expansion Of Polaris Recall
Polaris and its snowmobile division issued a recall on a recall this week. It expanded on a previous recall and interestingly even included some vehicles that had already been brought into a dealership for the needed repair.
The recall asks the owner of 21,160 Matryx chassis Polaris snowmobiles built over four model years (2022-2025) and featuring the Patriot 650 and Patriot 850 naturally aspirated two-stroke engines.

As you’ll see in the press release below, this is the fourth in a series of recalls related to drive clutch failure and disconnection.
From here down, all words are from Polaris:
Polaris Recalls Some Model Year 2022-2025 MATRYX Snowmobiles Equipped With PATRIOT 650 & PATRIOT 850 Engines
Polaris has determined that some Model Year 2022-2025 MATRYX Snowmobiles equipped with PATRIOT 650 & PATRIOT 850 engines can have an increased risk of primary (drive) clutch failure due to post cracking. The failure can cause the clutch or clutch components to be separated from the unit, posing a potential injury hazard to consumers.
Polaris is expanding the recall population; certain consumers whose units were previously repaired may require a second repair. Polaris is notifying dealers and registered owners directly. Consumers should immediately stop using the impacted units and contact a Polaris dealer to schedule a free inspection and repair, if needed. Do not attempt any repairs yourself.
“Rider safety is our top priority,” said Jenny Nack, Vice President and General Manager, Polaris Snow. “This includes continually monitoring performance to help catch potential safety issues, which this expanded recall demonstrates. We have a solution and are working with consumers and our dealers to make this right.”
Number of affected vehicles: approximately 21,160 units globally
Number of incidents: Polaris has identified 133 reports of clutch failure, including twelve reports where the clutch components separated from the unit. Polaris is aware of two reports of personal injury associated with this concern.
This concern also affects clutch service parts. If the clutch on your vehicle has been replaced with part number 1323613 or 1323614, it is also affected. Your Polaris dealer will contact you if your unit has an affected service part.

*Polaris issued a Stop Sale, Stop Ride on July 13, 2023, following our notification to the CPSC. On January 18, 2024, Polaris expanded the affected vehicle population. On February 22, 2024, Polaris announced the voluntary recall in conjunction with the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC Recall No. 24-740). On May 28, 2025, Polaris expanded the affected vehicle population.
Yikes thought it was just the P22 in the 9Rès now it is even in the 650.
Polaris was always the best most reliable clutch and sled. Need to bring back the test riders from Canada and US that rode everyday all year long to test the sleds. Obviously the computer testing is not working in real word conditions over time.
Are the clutches made in India like BRP used to and perhaps still does?
So P85 and P22 issues now what a shame.
Please focus on being the reliable dependable durable sled you are known for and stop focusing on electronic suspension and gadgets.
