The snowmobiling community at large is often very philanthropic in nature. It’s not hard to find evidence of the efforts made by other charitable groups such as the Pink Ribbon Riders, star athletes such as Tucker Hibbert working with Make-A-Wish or the countless snowmobile clubs who volunteer hundreds of hours to maintain, update and mark trail systems.
But one snowmobile club is taking an interesting angle in their efforts to raise awareness and funds for a specific cause – breast cancer.
The Genesee Sno Packers Snowmobile Club is hosting its fourth annual Bikini Rally for Breast Cancer on Feb. 10 in Oakfield, New York.
According to a story by New York Upstate, the club calls it “freezin’ for a reason.” Participants ranging from ages 18 to 60 (the eldest participant last year) participate in a series of sled rides dawning only swimwear to, “combine the passion for snowmobiling and the ability to help women and men diagnosed with breast cancer.”
Beforehand riders seek pledges from friends, acquaintances and local businesses to sponsor them. The event also has a $5 entry fee.
After the rides are complete, plaques are awarded to the top three riders who raised the most in donations, and all funds are donated to the Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, a cancer research and treatment center located in Buffalo, New York.
