How much annual spending is generated for rural economies by snowmobiling? Does snowmobiling damage soil vegetation? Do snowmobile emissions cause pollution to the environment? Are wildlife populations harmed by snowmobile use?
These common questions and many more were the focus of a study released by the American Council of Snowmobile Associations (ACSA), with funding provided by the Recreational Trails Program administered by the U.S. Department of Transportation – Federal Highway Administration (FHWA).
Titled “Facts and Myths about Snowmobiling and Winter Trails,” the research encompasses a wide range of economic, environmental and social issues associated with the snowmobiling and its community. A total of 40 pages accompanied by color photos and illustrations make the piece an interesting read for any sledhead working their way through the summer months.
Kim Rapp, founder of Trail Works Consulting and a longtime snowmobile administrator in several different states, is credited for doing much of the writing and photography in the publication.
