Thinking About Snowmobile Trail Riding, On A Hot Summer Day

Yes, it’s been a warm summer. Yes, it’s been a long summer. And yes, we got cheated on winter last year. There’s no denying any of that.

Yet, somehow, looking over the occasional photo from last winter can make me feel a lot better in a moment’s notice.

This image was taken on January 2 at 10:48 a.m. on the trail on the south end of Lake Gogebic in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Before the day was over, Snow Goer Associate Editor Tom Kaiser and I rode in a lot of fresh powder, made it up to Lake Of The Clouds, broke in a couple of new sleds and made long-lasting memories.

Some snowmobile trails open exactly four months from today. We can't wait.

Looking at the image this afternoon, Kaiser and I agreed on one thing immediately: We’d love to be teleported out of this 90 degree, humid day and dropped into that moment, right now.  Remember, every passing day is one day closer to December!
