Attention owners of 2017 Ski-Doo models with the then-new 850 E-TEC engine in the also-new REV Gen4 chassis: Your snowmobile is most likely the subject of a recall due to a fire hazard.
In early May, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) formally announced the recall of 2017 Ski-Doo MXZ X and TNT, Summit X and SP, and Renegade X and Adrenaline 850 E-TEC models. The recall covers about 10,000 snowmobiles, the CPSC announcement said.
The cause of the recall is 13 reports of fuel leaks and two reports of fire, the CPSC said. No injuries have been reported due to the incidents.
“Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled vehicles and contact a BRP snowmobile dealer for a free repair,” the announcement stated, noting that BRP is also contacting all known purchasers directly.
As is the case with many recalls, often most known owners have already been contacted by the time the formal government announcement comes out, though outreach is done to reach owners of machines who have changed hands.
