Before owners of some 2015 Polaris snowmobiles hit the trail this season, they will need to get ahold of their dealer for a free repair. Polaris has issued a recall for some 2015 Rush, Switchback and Indy snowmobiles because a steering component can crack and cause loss of control.
The recall, issued last week in compliance with the Consumer Product Safety Commission, calls for a repair of the steering pitman arm or drag link. Owners should not operate the vehicle and should contact a dealer to schedule the repair.
The recall says that Polaris has received 11 reports of cracked or broken steering pitman arms, of which eight reported loss of steering and three reported a crash. One injury has been reported. The consumer did not provide any details about the extent of the injuries. No property damage claims have been received.
About 4,700 units are affected by the recall, and most of them are based on the Axys chassis that debuted last year. Here is the list of the machines on the Polaris snowmobiles recall:
