The long line of Polaris recalls that has plagued the company’s ATVs, UTVs and motorcycles in the past year has reached into the snowmobile market, as on Tuesday the company announced the recall of about 6,000 mountain snowmobiles.
The Polaris announcement, made as per usual through the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), affects select 2017 RMK and SKS models — including 800- and 600-class Pro RMK, SKS and RMK Assault models with track lengths varying from 155 to 174 inches. It is related to a weld on the steering post that could separate, resulting in a loss of steering control and thus posing a crash hazard. Click here to see full recall notice with VIN numbers.
Polaris said in the announcement that consumers should immediately stop using the recalled vehicles and contact Polaris at 800/765-2747 to schedule the free repair. Polaris is also contacting all known purchasers of the machines directly.
The announcement says that Polaris has received 13 reports of steering post weld separation but there have been no reports of injuries related to those instances.
