Michigan, Wisconsin Snowmobile Trail Bridge Temporarily Closed

Some snowmobilers who ride in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and Northern Wisconsin will be affected by a temporary bridge closure as workers bring the span up to current safety standards. Originally part of a railroad grade, the 392-foot bridge allows snowmobilers to cross the Menominee River between Dickinson County, Michigan, and Florence County, Wisconsin.

A Michigan Department of Natural Resources trails specialist said a recent analysis indicated the 392-foot bridge was no longer safe for snowmobile travel. “The DNR has worked as quickly as possible to get the railings and decking upgraded, but construction will drag into the snowmobile season resulting in a temporary trail closure,” the official was quoted as saying in an article on The Grand Rapids Press newspaper’s website.

The snowmobile trail bridge will be closed until January. Here is the full story by The Grand Rapids Press.
