Free Gas At 5 Maine Resorts

Five Maine resorts are pumping a free fill-up for their guests’ snowmobiles this winter. The resorts of SLED ME, a group of whitewater rafting outfitters offering winter hospitality, will fill their riders’ snowmobiles upon completion of a three or more night stay at any of the resorts.
The offer is good Sunday through Thursday nights from the opening of the season in December through March excluding the Christmas holiday period in December and Presidents Birthday vacation period in February. One fill-up, up to $20, will be offered per double occupancy accommodation. The offer is available to guests riding their own machines or those renting snowmobiles at the resort.
“Riders will be hit by higher gas prices for both their own cars and trucks as well as their snowmobiles — a double whammy,” said Wende Gray, Director of SLED ME. “SLED ME outfitters want to encourage snowmobilers to take advantage of mid-week rates, less crowded trails and fresh snow falling before the weekend.”
SLED ME resorts include The Birches in Rockwood; Crab Apple Whitewater, The Marshall Inn and Dead River Lodge in The Forks; New England Outdoor Center in Millinocket and Caratunk and North Country Rivers in Bingham. They provide a variety of lodging from inns and motels to cabins and lodges, restaurants, snowmobile rentals and guided tours.
SLED ME maintains a web site for resort information and current trail conditions at www.sledme.com and a reservation referral service at 1-877-275-3363.
