Folks in the Upper Midwest looking for a Hay Days weekend replacement to get their snowmobiling and powersports fix have a new option, as an event at the ERX Motor Park in Elk River, Minnesota, has recently been announced.
Dubbed the “Elk River XPO at ERX Presented by UpNorth Sports” it’s a three-day (Sept. 11-13) event aimed at giving a shopping opportunity to local sledheads to get riding gear and accessories, with a mix of new and used machines for sale as well.
The press release announcing the Elk River Expo noted that, due to Minnesota guidelines related to COVID-19, the event will be rather unique – including utilizing a limited number of pre-sold tickets only (no walk-ups). Those tickets essentially are the buyer’s reservations to shop only during a pre-reserved four-hour block of time. There total number of tickets available was not released.
Previously, the World Championship Derby Complex in Eagle River, Wisconsin, had also announced an event for the same weekend, as folks try to find a way to fill the void after the COVID-related cancellation of the Hay Days Grass Drags and Swap Meet, held annually near North Branch, Minnesota.
The ERX event is being organized by Joe Duncan – known to many snowmobilers as one of the people behind the old World Snowmobile Association/World Powersports Association (WSA/WPSA) but who has also been involved in hosting/promoting many powersports events over the years.
“I knew we needed an event for powersports enthusiasts to transition from summer fun to winter fun,” Duncan said in a press release. “After interviews and review of state guidelines, I think we’ve found the best option for an event.”
