Breaking News: Jose Boisjoli Retiring As BRP President/CEO

Jose Boisjoli’s long and highly successful career at Ski-Doo’s parent company, BRP, will soon come to a close. He and the company announced on the morning of May 29 that Boisjoli’s 36-year run with the BRP and Bombardier corporations and 22 years as president and chief executive officer of BRP will end sometime in the next nine months.

Boisjoli’s tenure has been incredibly successful. He has led the company to marketshare dominance in the snowmobile and personal watercraft markets, massive grown in the ATV/UTV/off-road segment, the introduction of Can-Am Spyder three-wheel motorcycles, segment-defining moves in the marine market and much, much more.

Knowing him personally, we know that Boisjoli’s incredible business acumen is only matched for his passion for the motorized sports for which BRP builds products. That goes double for snowmobiles. He proudly shares stories of riding snowmobiles since age 10. He holds an engineering degree and has his name on some snowmobile-related patents. On his rise through the Bombardier corporation, Boisjoli served as president of the Ski-Doo/Sea-Doo division from 1998 to 2003. He then became the first and, to this point, only president of Bombardier Recreational Products (BRP) after it was spun off of the Bombardier parent corporation in 2003.

To this day, BRP designers tell us that Boisjoli still insists on personally riding prototype snowmobiles as new concepts are being developed and finalized.

“What I’m the most proud of is what BRP has become,” Boisjoli said in a call with the investment community Thursday morning. “We had two product lines that were profitable and two product lines that were not profitable in 2003. Today, we have seven profitable product lines and we have a diversified product portfolio and an international manufacturing footprint – I am very happy with where we are.”

Also during that call, when asked about the timing of his departure, Boisjoli explained things this way.

“I was discussing with the board twice a year about my plan, and we came in the last few weeks to an agreement that it was time for me to move on,” Boisjoli said. “You know, we have very experienced, long-time board members that know the business very well. And they have already started this morning the process. It will be obviously a global search, considering external and internal candidates. It could take anywhere from three to nine months – that would be the normal timeline. I obviously committed to stay and ensure a good transition until a new CEO is found.”

BRP’S PRESIDENT AND CEO, JOSÉ BOISJOLI, TO RETIRE BY THE END OF THE FISCAL YEAR AFTER 22 YEARS AT THE HELM OF THE CORPORATION

VALCOURT, QC, May 29, 2025 /PRNewswire/ – BRP Inc. (TSX: DOO) (NASDAQ: DOOO) today announced that, after 22 years as President and Chief Executive Officer, José Boisjoli has informed the Board of Directors (“Board”) of his intention to retire by the end of the fiscal year, at which time he will also step down from his role as Chair of the Board. During his tenure, Mr. Boisjoli spearheaded BRP’s remarkable growth story, from a Bombardier spin-off to a publicly traded, global leading Powersports OEM. As part of an ongoing succession plan, BRP’s Board is conducting a search for the Corporation’s next President and CEO. Mr. Boisjoli will continue to lead BRP until the appointment of his successor.

In 2003, Mr. Boisjoli, who was then President of the Snowmobile and Watercraft division of Bombardier, became President and CEO of BRP on the day it became a standalone company. Mr. Boisjoli laid out his vision for the making of BRP as we know it today. Under his leadership, the Corporation diversified its product portfolio, dealer and distributor network and manufacturing footprint, propelling its growth and more than tripling its revenue1. With seven product lines covering every single season, BRP’s Powersports market share increased threefold1 over the past two decades: today, one out of every three products sold worldwide carries the BRP logo.

“Leading BRP has never been a job: it’s been a work of passion and a true honor,” said José Boisjoli, President and CEO of BRP. “During my 36-year career at BRP, I have had the privilege to shape its DNA alongside brilliant minds and talented people who have relentlessly pushed the limits of innovation to offer the best experiences to our riding communities. Reflecting on my journey, I am proud that we have proven ourselves capable of changing the name of the game within the Powersports industry and built a strong organization that is well positioned for the long-term. I am grateful for everyone who contributed to BRP’s success.”

“On behalf of the Board, I want to thank José for guiding BRP on a tremendous path of growth and diversification over the past 22 years, and for his stewardship of the business,” said Barbara Samardzich, Lead Director of BRP’s Board of Directors. “He has led with purpose and vision, implementing impactful strategies that have resulted in strong value creation and significant returns for shareholders. José has surrounded himself with a seasoned executive team and, together, they will continue driving the business plan and facilitate a smooth transition to a new CEO, when the time comes.”

  • Successful? He killed two iconic, 100 year old USA brands (Evinrude and Johnson), closed the manufacturing plant and laid off the workers. Giving up on the Evinrude and Johnson brands and their loyal customers is a shame. And what about his YES we are in and then NO we are out of the boat and pontoon market? Not what I would call good decision making. Happy to see him go.

  • He is a great Ski-Doo, Sea Doo, CAN AM and Spyder guy, fantastic CEO for those brands, great hands on executive wo actually rides and tests the products which is never done by top CEO’s in the sled ATV, SxS market anymore. He did great things at BRP making them #1.

I never followed the boat business, it is way way too expensive for the mass market. Too bad for Johnson and Evinrude they were great brands but the boat business is far too expensive, always was but is basically for only 1%ers now.

BRP main business, sled, ATV ,SxS and PWC and pontoon is more relatable to everyday people, the 99%ers. But very over priced as well but no where near the crazy high boat business.

    Congratulations on your pending retirement.
