Another Stop Ride: Polaris Recalling 2022-23 Mountain Sleds

Polaris 2023 RMKs

Just when Polaris was attempting to recover from the proverbial black eye from the ongoing stop ride/stop sale/recall on a decade worth of snowmobiles for a fuel pump-related problem, a new stop ride/stop sale edict is being announced.

This latest situation – with Polaris’ full statement pasted below – involves Pro RMK and RMK Khaos models in the Matryx chassis. The problem is tied to the brake system. There have been 60 incidents reported and 14 resulting fires out of 23,600 sleds.

Not surprisingly, when the latest situation was reported on November 22, the internet went wild, with Polaris owners considering which bridge to push their affected machines off of and owners of competitive sleds lambasting the brand and their Polaris-riding friends.

Here’s the statement from Polaris:

Polaris Issues Stop Ride / Stop Sale for Some Model Year 2022-2023 MATRYX RMK KHAOS and PRO Snowmobiles

Polaris has determined that under certain operating conditions, some Model Year 2022-2023 MATRYX RMK KHAOS and PRO snowmobiles may be susceptible to brake system overheating.  Brake overheating may increase the risk of a fire, posing a risk of serious injury.

Number of affected vehicles: approximately 23,600 units globally

Number of incidents: Polaris has identified 60 reports of heat/brake drag, including 14 reports of fire as a result of this concern. No reports of personal injury or property damage have been identified.

Consumers should immediately stop using the impacted units. Polaris is currently evaluating a comprehensive action plan to correct this concern at no cost to consumers and will contact affected consumers once determined. DO NOT attempt any repairs yourself.

Polaris is notifying dealers and contacting registered owners directly.

Polaris has reported this matter to the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

…spent 20k on a 9R Khaos 155, ran awesome, did the brake recall and it runs like a 600. Now Polaris says they do not have a file or computer fix to reverse the brake recall. Why do 20 yr. old engineers that wore helmets on their tricycles and could not make the little league team, put got their trophy anyway, tell me how to ride my snowmobile. WTF, Polaris is going to lose a lot of mountain riders.
