12 Reasons To Attend The Big East Powersports Show

The annual Big East Powersports Show is just days away, kicking off the pre-snowmobile season in style in downtown Syracuse, New York, with everything a snowmobiler could want, all in one building. It starts Friday, September 30, and wraps up on Sunday, October 2.

The show, in its 23rd year, is an annual celebration of winter at the Oncenter in Syracuse, drawing more than 100 vendors from across North America and thousands of snowmobilers from throughout the Northeast who gather to share their love of the sport.

There are many reasons to attend the big fall snowmobile shows – here are our top five, all starting with the letter “S,” followed by seven other honorable-mention candidates to bring this list to a cool dozen. For more information on the show, including hours and discount tickets and coupons, click here.

  1. Sleds – The Big East Show is a great place to see a lot of snowmobiles. Yes, the 2017 models will be there from Arctic Cat, Polaris, Ski-Doo and Yamaha, but there’s more to see as well. Check out the vintage snowmobile display on the ballroom level, see some of the highly modified sleds in various vendor display booths and ponder about the youth-oriented sleds in the King Snowmobiles booth. There will even be Snow Bikes on display, although maybe that should be another “S”?

  2. Shop the Sales – One great reason to come to a fall snowmobile show is the great prices on everything imaginable at all of the dealer display booths. This is a terrific place to shop for jackets, boots, bibs, gloves, helmets, balaclavas, base- and mid-layer gear, sportswear and much, much more. It’s like the entire world of possible snowmobile gear has been condensed into one building, and much of it has been put on sale!

  3. Speed – Do you have a need for speed and performance? This is the place to feed it. Aside from the exciting new turbo-charged four-stroke Sidewinder, Thundercat and 9000 Series sleds plus the new 850 two-stroke snowmobiles from Ski-Doo on display, there are also many booths from aftermarket performance companies like Bikeman Performance, D&D Powersports, Dynojet, Dyno Port/Bender Racing, Legend Performance, Powerseal and Wiseco not to mention 2017 newcomers Straightline Performance and Full Power Performance. If you want to dream about the possibilities with your sled, this is the place.

  4. Seminars – Back for their second year, the Snow Goer Clinics seminars offer consumers a chance to hear from experts in the traction, suspension, performance, trailering and snowmobile touring segments in walk-up sessions that are free with your price of admission. The seminars are specifically targeted at sharing useful, unbiased information and are all held on Saturday, October 1.

  5. Snowmobilers – That’s right, hanging out with fellow snowmobilers is a great reason to come to the Big East Powersports Show. It’s a gathering place for like-minded people who truly look forward to winter, just like you do. You might run into old friends or riding buddies as you mill through the show and soak up the fun and interesting atmosphere.

Want some other reasons to come to the show? Let’s keep the “S” parade going!

  1. Consider the Sled hauling devices, from trailers to dolly systems;
  2. Check out the Skis and Studs that will help your sled get a better grip this winter;
  3. Enter the Snow Goer Sweepstakes, where you can enter to win a new Ski-Doo snowmobile, Triton trailer, BRP modular helmets, Dennis Kirk gift certificates and other great prizes
  4. Enjoy the Suds, Sodas, Snacks and Spicy beef jerky that help make this a fun place to hang out;
  5. Shop for the Stickers and Synthetic oil you might need to get ready for the season;
  6. Search for new snowmobile destinations and snowmobile trail maps – you’re sure to find an interesting new place to ride;
  7. To find out what is for sale at the oddly named Sled Freak and Sled Bitch booths, not to mention Snowmobaby (which has a special kid’s fun area this year).

      No, and yes — how’s that for an answer?! No, there aren’t usually any units on the floor with a pricetag on them, and there’s no reason to show up with a trailer to be ready to haul one home. That said, the manufacturers booths typically are “manned” by representatives from local dealerships, who can write orders and sell units that they have in stock back at their dealership, and some years the other dealership booths will have a display in their boothspace of what units they have in stock/on sale.
