Knowing the odds were high that the plastic hand guard mounts on our Ski-Doo demo sled would break – they did every year since 2006 – we installed a set of PowerMadd Star Series hand guards with Rox Speed FX’s billet mount kit ($59.95) on our 2009 MX Z TNT.
Since the sled’s wind protection is scarce, we also installed Rox’s Hand Guard Flares ($34.95) to provide more protection. To top off the package, we installed a 6- to 8.25-inch Height Adjustable Elite handlebar riser ($159.95) and black pad ($14.95).
The billet mounts and riser are premium-quality parts that are machined from solid stock for durability with chamfered edges and a nice finish. All of the parts fit well with rock-solid stabilty. The handlebar support adjusts smoothly and easily with a half-inch wrench (wrenchless kits are available, too) and it accepts handlebars 7/8- or 1-1/8-inch diameter.
The yellow-and-black PowerMadd handguard setup was a nice complement to our Ski-Doo with the guard’s yellow hue matching well to the factory color. Attaching a Rox hand guard mount to the handlebar is easy with one Allen screw.
Fastening the mount to the guard is more confusing because there are more nuts, bolts and washers for adjustability so the setup can best suit the application. Installation of the foam flares proved to be a headscratcher, too, but we figured it out after a few tries and they fit well. You’ll have to drill two holes in each plastic guard so it can hold the plastic rivet.
